…outer space proof that all of life loves us

Wow!!  I am so excited I just have to stop everything and share this story.

Chris Hadfield, Canadian astronaut has “brought the miracle of space travel home to the world” allowing all of us to experience it.  But I just recently found a little known secret that NASA discovered that can change the way we see ourselves.

In my meditation class I’ve been talking about how all of life is here to support us and I keep getting proof of that but this one is just toooo amazing!!  I know you’ll love it!

My brother’s business place often has glue fumes from the place next door and yesterday my sister said she was at the store to buy some plants and the lady just happened to mention that spider plants, you know those long spiky leafed things that have all these babies hanging at the bottom, well they actually detoxify the air.  I thought, “Oh sure, just because they use carbon dioxide and give off oxygen then naturally the air would be more clean and pure.”  But I thought I’d check and see what Google had to say about it.  And guess what!!??  Not only spider plants but many plants do actually get rid of toxic substances in the air!  Apparently years ago NASA wanted to find a way to have clean air on the Space Station so they studied plants and discovered that many plants were able to remove toxic substances such as benzene and formaldehyde from the air.

I am so amazed!!  God loves us!!  If you ever had any doubt about how much you are loved just check out some of these sites or Google NASA Clean Air Study.  It is exciting news!!  And it is proof of how much God love us.  Everything we need is there for us!!  No matter how badly we pollute our world the remedy is there.  How could this possibly be true?  That we are so loved that we can destroy life and a beautiful, natural way to fix up our mess is there for us.  How could we ever think God is punishing us?  How could we ever believe He has deserted us?  He is here just giving, just loving.  It makes me want to cry.  … that we waste so much time feeling unloved when such great love is given.

Oh… I just thought of another story!!  Next time!

Before I die I will…

I recently saw this sign just off 118 Ave, and it made me stop and think for a while…a long while…and it made me realize how amazing people are and how talented.  I love driving down the street and seeing the sides of buildings covered with huge murals or painted boxes and posts…amazing art work.

This sign brought my mind to a sudden stop.  So big a message in such a few words.  Before I die I will… And instead of going off on another track as it usually does, this time my mind just hovered there for a while, feeling the depth of these five words.

Before I die I will… leave a significant positive mark upon the earth.

How about you?

Hurricane Sandy… disaster brings out the best in us.

Last week I’m sure we were all listening to the news reports about Hurricane Sandy and all the devastation this storm brought with it.  Close to a million people had to leave their homes, dozens died, schools were closed, even the New York Stock Exchange closed down, millions were without power.

But there were also amazing hero stories, too.  As a matter of fact there were so many kind deeds done during and after the storm that a Facebook page was set up for people to share their stories and to thank those who helped.  Ordinary people went out of their way to help… one person bought 40 pizzas to take to those who needed food, kids collected money, businesses offered free services like showers and places to stay, people who had electricity put up signs saying “plug your phone in for free” for those without power, a doctor offered free medical care, people offered their homes to people they had just met, so many acts of kindness and caring that you will be crying by the time you’re halfway through the article.  If you want to be inspired like you’ve never been before then take the time to read all of these stories in the article and on the Facebook page.  This makes me proud to be member of the human race and makes me want to strive to be a better human being.  People are so amazing!!

Pinch of Spice:  Your assignment for this week is to read and re-read these stories  each day.  Then spend at least ten minutes each day for meditation, just allowing yourself to go deeper and deeper into the warm and beautiful space of being in the heart.   Then take some time to see what you can do to show greater kindness, to be a better person.  Please share your insights in the comments section below.

ThanksGiving…my only prayer

“If the only prayer you ever said was Thank You, that would suffice.”  Meister Eckhart

This is my only prayer…

Thank You God…

Thank you for this day of life…and this opportunity to live in thanksgiving.  Thank you for family in which I am so deeply blessed.  Thank you for food, wonderful tastes, harvests, wheat fields and lovely round hay bales on country drives.

Thank you for friends, good health, plenty.

Thank you for sunshine.

Thank you for golden hued leaves dancing in my window and for warm autumn days. Thank you for birds and skies, for bountiful harvests supplied by trees and friends.  Thank you for a fridge overflowing with fresh apples and tomatoes.

Thank you for meditation and for being ever near, for all of life that brings me back to you when I stray.    Thank you for so much to give thanks for and a heart overflowing with gratitude.  Only love can live in a heart like this.

PINCH OF SPICE FOR THIS WEEK:  This is a perfect time to take time for gratitude and see how it changes your life.  Every day this week take at least 20 minutes to make your list of things you are thankful for.  Then be sure to take time to rest in feelings of gratitude.  Feel how it changes your Now and watch how it changes your future Nows.

“If the only prayer you ever said was Thank You, that would suffice.”  Meister Eckhart

Life passes us by
Unless we stop and pay attention
Do you feel like every once in a while you find yourself being sucked down into a deep pit of nothingness?  And you struggle and fight to get out cause you know that out there is where life is happening and you’ve been missing it.

And then days, maybe weeks, or months or years later you find yourself once again breathing, looking up and seeing the sky, and finding yourself struggling to get out. ..Get out of where?   What happened?  What is happening?  Where were you?  Where are you?  Stop… and pay attention!!
Breathe…  Live…   Be…

Pinch of Spice:  Today and every day this week (or till the next POS) stop and pay attention.  Do it right now.  What do you notice?  …sounds, sensations, thoughts, breathing…notice outer stuff, notice inner stuff.  Take a few minutes to just stop and pay attention.  Now notice how suddenly you feel alive.  Just be here now enjoying being alive.  Now take note of the time and decide to do this every hour on the hour.  This is one way to bring aliveness to your life.

Clouds come floating into my life,

no longer to carry rain or usher storm,

but to add color to my sunset sky.

—Rabindranath Tagore

Spice for the week:  … Never take a sunset for granted.  Find the best sunset spot in your area and Watch the sunset… every day… Notice and absorb the wonder and stillness of the moment …and notice how clouds add beauty and color to the sky.

Spring’s Treasures

Spring’s Perfume

Wind whipping through my hair, sunshine on my face and sending its warm and oh-so-longed-for rays through my body, and all the glorious wafts of spring’s amazing perfumes.  And all the brilliant, glowing greens of new leaves, new life!!  What a great idea!  A last minute adventure to go and spend a few days on the houseboat before it sold and I was on my way to town for a coffee, and just loving the drive down winding, hilly, tree-lined roads with the top down in my little car.

Spring is filled with wonderful surprises.  Later that evening I was walking with my sister and sudden waves of the most beautiful fragrances blew our way.  I looked around to see which tree would have such wonderful blossoms but she said no, it’s not flowers, it’s the leaves, she smelled that every Spring.  Not believing her ridiculous story I looked around and there were no flowering trees or flowers of any kind nearby but there was a giant poplar tree right in front of us.  I walked over.  It was filled with baby leaves that had just come out of their buds.  They looked wet, shining in the light of the sun.  I touched one and it was sticky.  New born leaves!!!  So fresh, so brilliant green, so new!!  And YES!!!  When I bent over to smell it, it had a most wonderful perfume.

Pinch of Spice:  For a little spice this week, each day go for at least a half hour walk in the woods and notice all the gifts that Spring has for us.  Relish in each thing you notice taking at least 5 minutes to just absorb the wonder and beauty of it.   Notice the new leaves, birds, insects, the colors, smells, touch, flowers, grasses, fluffy clouds, warm Spring air.  Notice how you feel new energy, new life, close your eyes and take at least 5 more minutes to just be there and feel the stirring of new life inside of you.  Take that energy with you to renew you through the week and weeks to come.

I Want to Dance With You

Come follow me.  Come and dance with me.
I’ll take you to places you’ve never been before.
I’ll take you to the highest mountaintop
And together we’ll leap
Into forever….

I’ll show you how to love life
Like you’ve never loved before.
I’ll show you how to love God
like you’ve never known love.
And maybe even we’ll get to see God
And look into his eyes.

Pinch of Spice: The Danger of Knowing

Door, Saidpur

How can knowing be dangerous?

One of the greatest mistakes that I seem to keep making in my life is to think I have the answer.  I’ve discovered that there is great danger in thinking I know something…anything.  Let’s just look at it.  From the minute you know something and you have an answer, then that particular door to that subject closes and the door to any other possibility regarding that subject is closed.

And when that door is closed and some new bit of information or insight comes your way, then the Universe looks over and sees the closed door so it says, “Oh, that person is handled.  They already know.  I don’t have to send any answers their way.”  And then the answers and insights drift on to find another door, one that’s open.

And I’m left there with all my closed doors, going deeper and deeper into the maze of mind and farther and farther from Truth and Openness and Beauty.

Here’s your soul spice assignment for this week...

Take 10 minutes each day to look for your closed doors.  Notice what areas of your life are not working, anywhere that you are not experiencing joy and love.  Ask yourself the questions,

  • What doors have I closed in this area of my life?
  • Where do I have answers that may be closing doors to greater knowing?
  • What do I already know regarding this situation that is keeping me from my higher good?
  • Am I willing to open all closed doors in my life?
  • Am I willing to un-know everything that I know, think I know, or know I know?”

Take 10 extra minutes to just rest in the Beauty and expansiveness that are available when you begin to open closed doors.

Please let us know your thoughts as you do this assignment.  And please click on Follow if you’d like to have these life-changing, consciousness-raising assignments come right to your email.
