…in a sea of staring herrings…

We live in a sea of staring herrings!!
and worst of all we are one!!
All just staring out into space, with empty, vacant looks…
vacant because there is no-one home.

This week let’s make it our spiritual project to notice how often we have become a staring herring.
And then let’s invite our being back home, into our body, noticing our thoughts, hearing sounds, seeing what is around us, and eventually seeing how a whole new way of seeing becomes available to us.
Then we leave the sea of staring herrings and enter the sea of the seer.

2014: Burn the Old, Invent the New

sacred fire

sacred fire

Burning…releasing…offering…

Sunday I led a New Year’s Mini-Retreat at my house. We re-viewed our past year, miracles, accomplishments, our failures and disappointments. We listed all our limiting ideas, thoughts and beliefs that were holding us back from greatness. We built a beautiful blazing fire and one by one we offered all things from the past to be purified in the sacred flames. We watched as our past burned on bits of paper turning to ash before our eyes.

Inventing…creating…visioning…

Our souls felt purified. And with a clean slate we visioned our New Year. In silence of meditation we opened ourselves to a whole new being… to a whole new, previously unimagined possibility for our lives. Feeling the infinite nature of who we really are we began to write new messages upon the slate of 2014.

Faith, Love, Joy, Life, Harmony, Peace, Light, Greatness, Gratitude, Truth, Giving,  were the seeds of the writing on the slate.

A New Year’s resolution to end all resolutions…

grow miracles

grow miracles

Every year promises, resolutions, hopes for a new life and a new way of being.  Gradually over the years we realize that resolutions and promises don’t work.  We resign ourselves to the status quo….next year will turn out however it does no matter what we do.  So why even make an effort?

Throw away all your resolutions!!  Today let us make a new kind of resolution…a resolution to end all resolutions… and that is to live now, to be happy now, to have all we want now, because now is the seed for tomorrow.  So whatever you want in the new year feel how it would feel to have it and stay with that new energy of having.

Today let us plant a new seed.  A seed that will grow miracles in our life.  Each day cultivate miracles, nurture miracles, feed them, watch for them.  When you get up in the morning let your first thought be, “What miracles can I create today?”  and then watch and wait for miracles to appear.  Grow a lovely garden of miracles.

Find or make a beautiful miracles box.   Cut up little bits of paper and as you notice miracles in your life write them down.  Write the big ones on colored paper.  As your miracle consciousness grows you will begin to notice more and more miracles in your life.  Whenever you have a down day get out your miracles box and remember all your many blessings.  Happy New Year!!

…everything passes…

sun in trees

Crisp cool evenings in early August… darkness coming noticeably earlier each day… these are just chilly reminders that nothing lasts forever.   And so often we need reminders such as this.  What we love will soon be gone so enjoy it while we can.  What we don’t love so much will soon be gone so don’t worry…love it for the gifts it brings…for bringing contrast and depth into your life.  Everything comes into our lives just to pass through.  All moments become moments of beauty when we realize that they won’t last.

As we squeeze the last few drops of enjoyment out of each warm evening that just short weeks ago had us living as though they’d never end, we see that all of life is a gift to us.

Everything that comes into our lives has a message for us that says, “Live now, live now!”

Spice for this week:  Get out and live your life!!  Enjoy the warm evenings, enjoy the cold days, sit on your patio, go for walks, spend time with trees, lay on the grass, get up and watch the sunrise for a sunrise meditation, never miss a sunset.

…robin takes me away…to meditation

Robin’s Meditation

Robin’s call takes me away
….to another shore
where time has no meaning,
where thoughts exist no more.
Clamoring, clinging shouts
persistently demanding tenant’s rights…
demanding to maintain residence
are losing the battle…
in the joyful call of the robin.

Empty rooms are found and
spaciousness is once again the king

Silence rings its bell
and the unfamiliar taste of rest
is the gift
to welcome new guests like me.

Always follow a robin’s call.
This is life lived.

Glorious now….

baby geese

more geese

The babies are growing…
sunsets are glorious.
Throw away your to-do lists.
Leave the dusting and worry behind.
Be responsible only to your inner calling.
Get out into the park.
Listen to the wisdom of a tree and a baby goose.
Drop into the timelessness that only exists in an intimate relationship with a blade of grass.
Summer will not last forever!

I didn’t ask for lemons…

Lemon

Lemon (Photo credit: Moyan_Brenn_

I don’t want lemons.  That’s not what I asked for.  Whatever happened to, “Ask and it will be given…”?  Where’s the palm tree and beach I asked for?  And I don’t even like lemonade!!  So I’ll just keep being miserable till I get what I want.  Oh, but look at this lovely ray of sunshine coming in my window.  It’s gonna be another hot and beautiful day.  And these lemons are such a lovely yellow color.  Yes, I remember once I made some iced tea with green tea, lemons, spices and stevia and it was amazing and oh so healthy!  And guess what!!?  I just happen to have all the ingredients because for some reason life just gave me a bunch of lemons… And it’s not quite a beach or a palm tree but laying on a lounge chair on my deck in the hot afternoon sun that iced tea was better than any tropical cocktail and as I looked up at the endless blue sky, palm fronds lent their welcome shade… Oh, I guess those are poplar leaves.

When life gives you lemons make lemonade…or something even better!!

Have you made lemonade lately?  Tell us your lemonade story!!

…outer space proof that all of life loves us

Wow!!  I am so excited I just have to stop everything and share this story.

Chris Hadfield, Canadian astronaut has “brought the miracle of space travel home to the world” allowing all of us to experience it.  But I just recently found a little known secret that NASA discovered that can change the way we see ourselves.

In my meditation class I’ve been talking about how all of life is here to support us and I keep getting proof of that but this one is just toooo amazing!!  I know you’ll love it!

My brother’s business place often has glue fumes from the place next door and yesterday my sister said she was at the store to buy some plants and the lady just happened to mention that spider plants, you know those long spiky leafed things that have all these babies hanging at the bottom, well they actually detoxify the air.  I thought, “Oh sure, just because they use carbon dioxide and give off oxygen then naturally the air would be more clean and pure.”  But I thought I’d check and see what Google had to say about it.  And guess what!!??  Not only spider plants but many plants do actually get rid of toxic substances in the air!  Apparently years ago NASA wanted to find a way to have clean air on the Space Station so they studied plants and discovered that many plants were able to remove toxic substances such as benzene and formaldehyde from the air.

I am so amazed!!  God loves us!!  If you ever had any doubt about how much you are loved just check out some of these sites or Google NASA Clean Air Study.  It is exciting news!!  And it is proof of how much God love us.  Everything we need is there for us!!  No matter how badly we pollute our world the remedy is there.  How could this possibly be true?  That we are so loved that we can destroy life and a beautiful, natural way to fix up our mess is there for us.  How could we ever think God is punishing us?  How could we ever believe He has deserted us?  He is here just giving, just loving.  It makes me want to cry.  … that we waste so much time feeling unloved when such great love is given.

“O Wind… If Winter comes can Spring be far behind?” Percy Bysshe Shelley

IMAG0002IMAG0011IMAG0009

Spring!!  Every day is getting noticeably longer.  Light and life are thankfully returning to what seemed to be a dark and dreary land.  Spirits are lifting.  Hope of green grass and late summer evenings is in the air.  Hearts once again rejoice in the knowing that we have not been forsaken or even forgotten.  The sun is returning to warm our hearts and the earth.

Pinch of Spice for this week:  Every Spring with my Grade 3 class we would discover the fun of water colors.  Now it’s your turn!!  Find some water color paper… you might need to go the nearest art shop… years ago any kind of white paper seemed to do but  I just discovered that the computer paper of today just doesn’t work.  Then get a brush, some water color paints, wet your paper and let your soul express.  Dab on some bright flowery colors…see what you can create.  Try it on really wet paper letting the colors run down, try it on paper once the water has soaked in and let the colors spread out like a fireworks display.  Try it once the paper has dried to paint in outlines or sharper contrasts.  Let your spirit run wild.  Let life express through you.  You might just get hooked on the joy of showing your true colors through water color painting.
