Hurricane Sandy… disaster brings out the best in us.

on November 7, 2012

Last week I’m sure we were all listening to the news reports about Hurricane Sandy and all the devastation this storm brought with it.  Close to a million people had to leave their homes, dozens died, schools were closed, even the New York Stock Exchange closed down, millions were without power.

But there were also amazing hero stories, too.  As a matter of fact there were so many kind deeds done during and after the storm that a Facebook page was set up for people to share their stories and to thank those who helped.  Ordinary people went out of their way to help… one person bought 40 pizzas to take to those who needed food, kids collected money, businesses offered free services like showers and places to stay, people who had electricity put up signs saying “plug your phone in for free” for those without power, a doctor offered free medical care, people offered their homes to people they had just met, so many acts of kindness and caring that you will be crying by the time you’re halfway through the article.  If you want to be inspired like you’ve never been before then take the time to read all of these stories in the article and on the Facebook page.  This makes me proud to be member of the human race and makes me want to strive to be a better human being.  People are so amazing!!

Pinch of Spice:  Your assignment for this week is to read and re-read these stories  each day.  Then spend at least ten minutes each day for meditation, just allowing yourself to go deeper and deeper into the warm and beautiful space of being in the heart.   Then take some time to see what you can do to show greater kindness, to be a better person.  Please share your insights in the comments section below.
